[08/14] One-way selling drags value beneath yesterday's floor · ES Futures Session Recap
Price left yesterday's point of control in the first hour and never closed back above it.
ES · Sep '26 (ESU6) · regular session, data through the 15:00 CT close
Session 7796.50 – 7830.75 (34.25 pts) · close 7805.75 · volume 696,444
Value 7796.75 – 7813.50 · POC 7803.00, built one notch below yesterday's and still overlapping it
Cumulative delta -14,194, negative in the first hour and more negative in every hour after
Yesterday's value area did not hold. Price opened inside it and failed at the upper edge inside the first hour. It spent the remaining six hours working lower, closing beneath the bottom of yesterday's value on selling that never paused. Value migrated down a notch without separating from yesterday's, which leaves the two distributions overlapping and the break unconfirmed. That last part is what tomorrow has to settle.
The session
The open came at 7827.50, two points under yesterday's value-area high, inside prior value rather than above it. The high printed at 09:08 and measured 7830.75. That was a probe of the edge, five minutes beyond it before closing back underneath. Acceptance, time traded beyond a level rather than a single touch, never happened up there.
From that point the session did one thing. Price left 7823.00, yesterday's point of control, and stayed beneath it for the remaining six hours without once closing back above. The low came at 12:37 at 7796.50, and the close at 7805.75 sits under yesterday's value-area low of 7807.25. Today's own value built at 7796.75 to 7813.50 with the point of control at 7803.00. The whole distribution sits a notch lower than yesterday's, overlapping it rather than separating from it.
The delta says the same thing without ambiguity. It was negative in the first hour and more negative in every hour after it, closing at -14,194 on 696,444 contracts. There is no rotation in that line, no hour where buyers took any of it back. Sellers pressed from the open and were never made to stop.
How this morning's read did
I said rotation inside yesterday's range, between the prior value-area low and the high, with the upper edge holding on the first attempt. Half of that was right.
7838.50 · yesterday's high. Never touched. The read said it holds on the first attempt. There was no attempt.
7829.50 · prior value-area high. Touched, five minutes beyond, closed back underneath. Rejected.
7823.00 · prior point of control. I called this the level price turns back to. It went through it: 360 minutes beyond, no close back above. Accepted.
7807.25 · prior value-area low. This was the floor of the range I expected to contain the day. Value built below it and the session closed beneath it.
The tell I published was whether the first half hour traded above 7838.50 and stayed there, or turned back to 7823.00. It turned back, which is what I said would happen, and then it kept going, which is not.
The falsifier is the honest part. I wrote this morning that acceptance below 7807.25 makes yesterday's break a failed one. That is what today delivered. The read was not wrong about the ceiling. It was wrong to treat the prior value-area low as a floor, and it said in advance what would prove that.
What moved it
The session high printed at 09:08, eight minutes after the consumer sentiment release. Everything after it was one way.
Tomorrow's map
Working:
7830.75 · today's high
7813.50 · today's value-area high
7807.25 · yesterday's value-area low, now overhead
7803.00 · today's point of control
7796.50 · today's low
Value migrated lower without separating from yesterday's, which leaves the two distributions overlapping and the question open rather than answered. The unfinished business is 7807.25. It was the floor this morning and it is the ceiling tonight. Whether tomorrow accepts back above it decides whether today was a failed break or the first leg of something larger. Beneath 7796.50 the next reference is yesterday's low at 7785.50, untested today.
